LIFE'S SOUNDTRACK

headphone dude.png

Theory
Soundtracks, the background music playing in movies, are such an incredibly important part of movies, which in turn are such an important part of our lives. Yet, for the most part, our lives don't have soundtracks. Sometimes they do, with our airpods in, when we put on our car stereos...

Film creators choose soundtracks to try to lead us to experience scenes differently -- we'll see a given scene totally differently if they choose Metallica over Mozart...

Instructions:
1. Go sometplace where you can witness humans being humans (a laundromat, subway, bar, busy street, playground...)
2. Journal about what you see for 3-5 minutes.
3. Now put on a pair of headphones and listen to 3 very different musical genres (e.g. Opera, Punk, Death metal...) while staring at the same scene for 3-5 minutes again (per genre). Journal about you see for each. Notice anything different?
4. Share your journaling and thoughts on the experience in a 250 word reflection.
