THE BLESSING GAME

WISH.png

THEORY:

The primary defining feature of competitive games is the fact that each player wishes the other ill, (May you miss this shot! May you miss this field goal!) then wouldn't the ultimate cooperative game be one in which all we did was wish each other well?

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Find a partner. Turn recorder on.

2. Bless your partner in the form: "May you [insert something awesome].  Be sure to make it concrete (e.g. May you have an amazing PB&J sandwich), rather than something abstract (e.g. May you find happiness).

3. Your partner offers you the SAME blessing back, and adds something to make it even BETTER (e.g. May you have an amazing PB&J sandwich AND a cold soda!)

4. You respond by upping the ante even further -- e.g. "May YOU have a cold soda and have an old friend visit while you're eating." Your partner responds by making it even better, e.g. "May you have an old friend visit while you're eating and he pays the bill!" and so on.

5. Keep it going for about 5-10 minutes.

6. Write a 250 word reflection: What was it like to wish your partner well in this game, rather than wishing them ill as we do in most games (e.g. I hope you miss this shot!) as we do in most games?
